Why do you need an API Key?
Any API key is a secret token that is used to identify the root of a request. You can need to connect to applications together. For example, sending your MailChimp subscribers to an e-commerce platform like Shopify.
How to get your MailChimp API key?
- Log in to your MailChimp account
- Go to your account Avatar and select Account
- Go to Extras
- Select API keys
- Copy the API key you want to use under Your API keys
What if you don’t have an API key yet?
If you don’t have any active API keys in MailChimp, you’ll be prompted to create one. Click on Create A Key and Mailchimp will make one new API key for you.
Why should you use a unique key?
Using a unique key per application is recommended. This keeps your integration secure and if your key is ever compromised, you can disable it without disabling access for all your other integrations. You can learn more about MailChimp and API key security by viewing their guide.
What should you name my API key?
Name your key descriptively so you know what application uses it, but also make sure that your name is not easy to guess.
