This is the only piece of advice for someone that who wants to sell products online should ever receive.
A lesson I’ve received many times myself.
Yet, I seem to forget it now and then and make the same mistakes
repeatedly.
Once I built a course almost fully ready before having any audience:
- Purchased the domain name (this alone, is a classic)
- Created the deck
- Recorded & edited videos
- Bought a Teachable plan
- Uploaded all the content
- Built the landing page.
- Started to run ads for it. (this could be like building the audience)
Another time, I had a website with organic traffic but I was focused on
redirecting all those visitors for affiliate purposes to another site.
While I could have offered a similar value while owning the audience.
✋So once in for all, we all draw a line in the sand and pick the right side.
Build an audience first.
An audience can be of any type:
- YouTube subscribers
- Twitter followers
- Email list
- Facebook group
- Organic traffic to your site
It doesn’t matter in the end, but you have to get one before selling
anything else. It doesn’t need to be big.
It is recommended to get it as an email list as this is the only link to your audience you can export or that will survive if the platform you use would
go away.
Please don’t make the same mistake.
Build the audience first. You’ll figure out how to make money second.
